Between September 4th and 9th, our PhD student, Georgia Koutentaki, participated at European Symposium on Analytical Spectrometry ESAS 2022 & 17th Czech - Slovak Spectroscopic Conference which offered the newest trends and findings in numerous research fields related to analytical chemistry, such as Atomic Spectrometry (AAS, OES), Molecular spectrometry/spectroscopy (UV-Vis, NMR, Raman, IR, etc.), X-Ray Spectrometry (EDS, XRF, WDS, etc.) and many more.

Georgia presented her work "3D Raman mapping as an investigation tool for particle coating thickness" in a form of a poster.

The Orbis Summer School

September 7th - 9th, 2022, Prague, Czech Republic

Through September 7th to 9th, professor Šoóš and four of our PhD students - Adéla Koryťáková, Erika Hriňová, Dan Trunov and Dominik Martynek, took part in the ORBIS 4th summer school on Biopharmaceutical Evaluation of Dosage Forms and Drug Delivery. Apart from visiting workshops, we also helped with their organization.

We have attended many interesting talks on oral drug delivery, the differences in in vitro and in vivo dissolutions, problems commonly encountered and how to solve them, as well as how to model the GI tract. The poster section was also quite diverse in the works, with a competition for a best poster taking place. It was also an excellent networking opportunity.

We would like to thank Physiolution, Zentiva and University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague for organizing the event.

The Biolab renovation and moving to a temporary exile

July 7 - 8th, 2022

On July 7th and 8th, we joined forces to move out the equipments from the B30 lab (upstairs) to get it ready for an upcoming renovation. We ordered pizza to fuel up for moving of the heavier pieces of furniture. The class of B03 will serve us as temporary exile during the summer months. The renovation works in Biolab are expected to be finished by the second half of September and we will be welcomed back to work hopefully shortly after that.

The Lab trip to Kutná Hora

June 29th, 2022, Kutná Hora, Czech Republic

On June 29th, our group went on a one day trip to the town of Kutná Hora, where we had a delicious lunch and visited the Czech Museum of Silver. There, equipped with a helmet with a torch and a miner's coat, we learnt all about the silver mining technology of Middle age, production of silver coins and all about the lives of people in this industrial town. Eventhough the weather was partially against us, we still managed to grab some ice cream to finish the day on a sweet note.
